The “Red Centre” of Australia is the area of central Australia around Alice Springs and incorporating Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) and Wartarrka (Kings Canyon).
The “Red Centre” name reflects the arid, red earth of the desert landscape in this region. Geographically, the area is in the approximate center of Australia in the Northern Territory.
The Northern Territory is the area of the Red Centre up to the tropical north of Australia. Alice Springs, Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kings Canyon and Kata Tjuta form the Red Centre area. A must visit to experience the true Aussie outback and experience our unique indigenous culture.
Alice Springs is the main hub in the Red Centre, this town isn’t the most beautiful in Australia but it certainly is the most interesting. It boasts a strong cultural element from local indigenous communities, with local art on display. If you have a free day to explore Alice Springs before a tour we would recommend a visit to the Reptile Centre to get a ‘hands-on’ experience with our Northern Territory wildlife…ever held a Goanna?
A visit to the Red Centre is not complete without a tour to see Uluru, the sunset here is number one on most people’s Australia bucket list. The colors changing so magically as the sunsets is a spiritual experience for most.
If you are looking to visit Uluru we would advise a night before and after your tour in Alice Springs, with even a day to explore the town. Then head out on one of our 3, 4 or 5-day tours to see Uluru, Kata Tjuta, and Kings Canyon. Our 5-day Kangaroo Dreaming tour is our most popular as it includes a visit to Oak Valley Aboriginal Community a unique cultural experience. We also stop at the Owen springs reserve where the first settlers rested on their journey.
Immerse yourself like one of the old pioneers in the outback of Australia’s Red Centre.
